As the daughter of Former First Lady Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama, Malia Obama is one of the most well-known students of Harvard’s Class of 2021. After taking a gap year traveling and interning, she has made Cambridge her home for the next few years. Throughout her childhood, she has been kept out of the spotlight but in recent months, photographs of Malia at university have surfaced. Whether it be that she’s drinking wine or hanging out with a boy, she makes headlines occasionally. It’s obvious that given her background, she will face much criticism for the tiniest of things. As a university student, with internships in the entertainment industry, I want to learn how Malia finds herself navigating college, relationships, her career aspirations, and fame.
Malia and Sasha, her younger sister, are roughly are the same age as me and my younger sister. We’ve grown to become young women in the same generation but their life is vastly different than mine, and many of my peers. Given her situation, there isn’t much known about Malia’s personality, ambitions, and beliefs. It’s this interesting case of being so well known but no one knowing about her (or Sasha) and in the digital age, this is really rare. Her name pops up on the news from time to time but she never makes a comment and I’m sure people are curious to what her transition to university life is like.
- Who are some of the people you admire?
- What was the most memorable experience you had volunteering abroad?
- If Sasha could describe you in three words, what would they be?
- What is a show you binge-watched recently?
- What is something you would like the public to know about you?
